Promo Shirts: the largest awareness campaign in Miami University’s history

Shown above is the promotional t-shirt that was created for the November 8, 2006 campaign day at Miami University. This t-shirt was created by the student team for the purpose of generating conversation about edun LIVE and ELOC. The front displays the text “I know who made my shirt, do you?” while the back portrays a graphic of Africa composed from wrapped text that says “edun LIVE is a socially conscious t-shirt company providing sustainable economic growth in developing nations.” Over 1,500 of these shirts have been sold and distributed throughout the entire world since Fall 2006.

Mock-up of sample shirts and anecdotes:

"Our house bought Edun LIVE on Campus shirts because it was for a great cause. They had an extremely fast turn around and great service. When we received the shirts, they were great quality and had a nice feel to them. In fact, one of the guys in our fraternity likes the logo on the inside of the shirt so much, he actually wears his shirt inside out."

Sean and friends - probably not too sorry for partying.

First customer – St. Mary’s Kairos Retreat

St. Mary’s had initially wanted to order green, long sleeve shirts with orange and white artwork from a local competitor. After receiving a flyer about ELOC, Nikki excitedly shared the organization’s mission with the fall retreat leadership team. Nikki soon found out that ELOC only had black, short sleeve shirts available. Nikki then went back to the leadership team and demanded that the artwork be recreated so they could support our organization. Kairos then forwarded on new artwork, which was designed internally by using generic graphic design program (see below). An ELOC designer recognized the poor design of the artwork, specifically disproportioned line sizes and wrapped text, and took a proactive approach to recreating the artwork in a much more specialized graphic design program.

Our first customers wearing their edun LIVE shirts

“We've always bought t-shirts for the leaders in the past to show unity and I can't think of a better shirt company to show unity through than edun LIVE on Campus. The philosophy of providing employment through ending poverty is a cause worth getting as many people as possible behind. In the Catholic Church, we have something called CST or Catholic Social Teachings; there are seven of them and ELOC covers 5 of those, the most prevalent being Dignity of Work. Dignity of Work is about the right to decent work and fair wages. The quality of the fabric for the price is really great and it's a great way to do the tag on the shirt. I love the fact that we were approached with it and hope it continues to grow.”

- Jeff Glaser, Campus minister - St. Mary Church

“I thought they were really comfortable and of high quality. In addition it was a great way to advertise our event and contribute to initiatives in social justice.”

- Mike Stanaitis, Codirector Kairos Retreat

“I wasn't sure what to expect from edun LIVE on Campus. We had always had our shirt design done locally in the past but were elated with the finished product done by edun LIVE on Campus. Their staff was great and accommodated us throughout the process. We look forward to continuing a regular relationship with them in the future!”

- Nikki Falk, Codirector Kairos Retreat

Other customers:

“Seldom in the corporate world is there an opportunity for societal advancement, professional benefit and student growth to converge in meaningful and developmental ways.  Clearly, edun LIVE on Campus is one of those rare catalysts that bring people together through a high-quality product, extraordinary customer service and a noble concept that fully engages communities!”

-Brad Bates, Director of Athletics (MU Ohio)

"The Senior Legacy Campaign is the yearly fundraising initiative undertaken by the senior class to establish a scholarship fund in its name to help current Miamians meet the cost of a college education.  Each class from 1940 to 2006 has established a fund in its name to provide tuition assistance for future Miamians and over $3.5 million has been given directly to students. The seniors who make a gift to the Class of 2007 Scholarship Fund are creating the impact their class will have on tuition assistance in the future.  By purchasing edun LIVE shirts through edun LIVE on Campus, these seniors are also supporting South Africans as they strive to make better lives for themselves.  In this way, the Class of 2007 is making an impact locally and globally."

-Joan Schiml, Senior Legacy Campaign

“Theta Chi chose to purchase our fraternity shirts from edun LIVE on Campus for several reasons.  Our fraternity was founded upon service to others.  The Greek origin of Theta Chi means "helping hand.” After initial discussions to purchase from a local t-shirt shop, one of the members proposed purchasing from edun LIVE on Campus and explained the benefits of that purchase.  After hearing about the benefits that the organization provides, it was a unanimous decision. It’s remarkable that we are able to help provide a living wage to people thousands of miles away, who live in the direst conditions by purchasing t-shirts from one business instead of another.  We benefit, they benefit; it’s a win-win situation.”

-Nick Schubert, Theta Chi

“The past two years we have had all our shirts made by [a local screen printer], but since we are getting older and more globally conscious we felt morally obligated to give back. We are fortunate to have the resources that enable us to help those in need, and edun LIVE on Campus was the perfect solution. We got a higher quality t-shirt for only an extra few dollars, but more importantly, knew the extra money was well spent.”

-Ashley Alexoff, UWS Little Sibs Weekend

“Gravy Days was an event designed to help raise money for families in need in the Oxford, Ohio area. When it came to buying and creating T-shirts for the event, edun LIVE on Campus was the first company to come in mind. Not only is the shirt and ink quality superior to any other company at Miami University, but knowing edun LIVE on Campus serves the same purpose as our event and made our decision easy.”

-Teddy Biros, Gravy Days
